I let my Ranger have about a month off and when I went back and started it up, it slammed into gear. I mean it shifts rough, really rough, and won't shift out of the lower gears. Goes fine up til about 25 but won't upshift. Any ideas?

automatic i presume. modulator perhaps? bands might need adjusting? might be time for a tranny flush, filter, and fill with new fluid. as long as your dealing with the tranny, might want to consider an add on cooler, again assuming it's an automatic. just my $.02.

I'm wondering about the Vacuum modulator too. For instance, my truck did the same thing as yours and it was a vacuum problem. My FPR was bad and (I guess) hogging up the vacuum from the T off of the manifold on my 2.9. The Trans vacuum is right off of this T........

Since I fixed the FPR, my trucks been shifting so much smoother.

Definitely check the easy free things 1st.
