Hey guys.. Back again.. I figured out horn issue.. But now another one has popped up.. It doesnt start.. And after checking the coil.. And figuring out it only fires a plug around 2 times and quits we started in on the wire.. Now we encountered a lovely moron of previous owner.. That started to cut at what looks like an early diode or resister cant tell which.... But it's a dark green wire that goes from the coil to the harness and don't know from there.. Help needed.. And thank you in advance

Pictures are helpful. If it's still the original TFI set up, a majority of the time it's the module on the back of the distributor if you haven't already changed it out. Read up on this in the tech section, very helpful. Good luck.

The green wire with a yellow stripe has a brown 22k ohm resistor. It sends rpm information to the eec-iv processor from the switch side of the coil. The engine will start and run without it. The TFI module and stator would be good places to start checking a no spark, no start condition.

If you do an eBay search for Ford DY-425, you can find nod oem modules inexpensively.

Yes, go here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TFI_Diagnostic.shtml

Print off the work sheet and follow it.

Yes, green wire is the Tach wire, and has a resistor, it isn't "needed", but if shorted to ground coil can't fire.

Spark System is powered for STARTING only thru a safety switch, the Clutch switch(manual) or NSS switch(auto)

When key is in RUN position spark system gets power all the time, when you turn the key to START that power is cut and the power runs thru the safety switch.
So one thing to test is to hook a test light or volt meter to the "+" on the coil, turn key to RUN, you should get power(12volts), then turn key to START power will be less(9-10volts) but you should still have power, if power goes away then you have a bad wire.
