1985 bronco 2 vs. 2001ranger xcab v6

Hey.

My 85 bronco 2 needs it all, motor and tranny. i have a totalled 2001 ranger x cab v6 . Can i swap v6 for v6 and auto tranny for auto tranny easily? This would give my 85 100'000 miles. also i have a Factory sunroof and i need surf racks or safari top, as well im looking for mesh or bar doors. Any suggestions? this is strictly a 4x4 surf rig.

No, not easily. You've got a lot of electrical and dash and emissions stuff going on in the new engine that wasn't in the old. You'll have to swap all the wiring harness and computer and dash and exhaust into the old truck, which will take a bunch of modifications to mount and get working properly.

And the transmission will have the same story. Is it from a 4x4? If not, you're going to have to deal with a transfer case transplant, which could be difficult or impossible. The transmission will, of course, go well with the engine, because they're already together, but the frame mounts and driveshafts and U-joints will probably be wildly different.

I assume the old engine and transmission are a Cologne 2.8l and an A4LD, but what's in the newer truck?

Just because it's a V6 doesn't make it the same as other V6's, and just because it's an auto transmission doesn't make it the same as other automatic transmissions. There could be massive differences between them.

It's certainly possible, in the long run, to do the swap, but it's going to be a lot of work, and time, and money, to get it accomplished. It may not be worth it.
