My current work truck is my 84 b2 that has the tk4. It has either a shot shifter fork or bad 1st gear synchronizer..

Ive got two tk5sp trans- first one we pulled apart to rebuild has a bad main shaft. Its been down so long Im going to just throw the second one in and if it pulls in all gears Im just gona drive as is.

Ive had hard time finding parts for those tk5's and wonder if there is another 5spd that will bolt to my 2.8 without modification? Thanks

Yes, the M5OD-R1 5-speed from a 4.0l will bolt to the 2.8l block/engine

M5OD-R1 doesn't have a detachable bellhousing, so must be from 4.0l engine and a 4x4 if so equipped.
2.9l M5OD-R1 will also work but they were 2WD only

You will want a 1997 or older M5OD-R1, if 2WD, it will have the speedometer gear you need, 1998 and up didn't have that.
If 4x4 then you can use your current transfer case with any year 4.0l 4WD M5OD-R1, 1990-2012, even the HD model, since transfer case has speedometer hook up
BW1350 and 1354 have same bolt pattern

But there is modifications needed:
Transmission support needs to be moved, and driveshaft lengths change

Thank you. This is what I needed to know!!

M5OD is the same length as an A4LD so factory driveshafts are out there that will work. Some of the other transmissions maybe the same, the TK series are confusing to an outsider and I have never had to deal with them so I can't keep them straight.

M5OD may use the same crossmember as an A4LD too. When I V8 swapped my '85 I slid the factory crossmember ahead and there were holes already there for it but the frame rails were closer together there, I had to trim about 1/2" off of the crossmember.
