Was given a 1976 f100 5.0 302 2wd manual truck that has been sitting in buddy's backyard. I'd like to get up an running( maybe 4x4 conversion one day :).OR....... take motor an swap into my 93 ranger 4.0 xlt 4wd manual is it worth it or any ideas?
What's involved ? Any issues? Before I start tearing down or buying parts.

76 is a poor year to start with. From 73 to 76 the deck height was increased by .023" to drop compression, the heads were restrictive due to the cast in thermactor passages and they used rail rockers which caused rapid and severe valve guide wear. The cam gear was aluminum with bonded on nylon teeth that would often strip off in around 40,000 miles and the centrifugal advance curve in the distributor was retarded. Not to mention it's got to be worn out at that age. It's probably worth having for free but not worth the work and expense to swap it.

How good is the truck? A 70's F100-150 that isn't rusty would be valuable in New England. Look at prices in Hemmings Motor News.

Can you post a picture of the alternator mounting upper and lower please?

My 302 is in a Cobra II and uses a kind of unique bracket and my Ranger 351 has a serpentine set up. Want a picture of the Mustang's brackets anyway?

If the water outlet is on the driver side, yes.

I thought we agreed you were going to throw away the 302 and put a compound turbo 300 into the truck?

If not I will come get the truck out of your way. No charge.

Haha nothing set in stone at this point
