I fail to see how a v8 swap is a bad "mod". If they wanted a full-size, they most likely wouldn't be on here. Also rust can't be helped. Living anywhere where they use salt on the roads its almost unavoidable.

Is retarded? matter of opinion. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean its retarded. a 4.0 just doesn't create enough power for certain setups, especially things like new, heavier-duty axles. There is also a much larger aftermarket for those bolt on parts your so in love with for some v8s.

Defeats the purpose of having a ranger in the first place? I love how you insinuate everyones ranger serves the same purpose.

So in your theory, rebuilding a low HP engine is the way to go? This is not a DD anymore. I built my truck myself, with parts that work together (yes I wheel the piss out of it). If your worried about the mpg, being able to "cut" some fenders and make it "look right", or even "how it looks", then just do a tune up and be done. I built my truck for me, and me only (I do get the thumbs up from bikers when we are screaming down the highway, which is cool too). I do have a full size dually that will go nowhere near the rock pile, its a puller/hauler. I couldn't dream of taking it half the places I have been in my Ranger

You come here to a site, full of "modded" Rangers and call most of the mods done stupid? Smart. Way to start off. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but wow....

Personally my v8 swap was worth it. I have twice the power, can now go above 65mph, merge into traffic much better, etc.. all while doing the same and if not better fuel mileage then my 2.8 was giving before I did any mods to my truck.

Anybody can own a full-size truck and have a v8, but few can say they put a v8 in their ranger. And until they do, they can't say anything about it being a bad mod to do.

I'm not bashing the thread, I'm just saying my experience and saying a v8 swap was one of my better mods.

As far as the V8 mod goes... Why would you consider it retarded? If I had the need or just by happenstance came across an appropriate doner vehicle I would highly consider it.
