I have an '86 Ranger with 14" wheels. I need tires with better tread than typical car tires, which is what seems to be available for 14".

I know I can go to 15". I don't want to buy new wheels yet.

Any suggestions for a TRUCK tire, i.e. better tread in 14" rim size??

Tirerack.com has nothing.

Bridgestone Dueler is all I can think of right now.. not the REVO's or anything fancy, it's the more basic one.

*edit: I just looked and yeah, apparently they have quit making that tire for 14" rims... Well I'm out of ideas... sorry.

EDIT AGAIN: well here are the tires it lists for a 225/70R14 tire, which should be stock 14" ranger tire size.. all 4 of them..

thanks for the footwork

my ranger came with 195/75-14 tires, but i think the 225s should be ok if they'll fit the rims

**edit 225 is too big, biggest is 215 for that rim

You mean 195/75-14? :icon_confused:

I had 225/75-14 Cooper Weather Master S/T2 on my old truck, they worked well for me.

I've got the 14x6 rims on my 2wd, 225/70R14 is what's listed on the door, so thats what I was going from.

the rim will be fine if you put a bit larger tire on it, there's 10mm total difference with 215 vs. 225, so really only 5mm a side.

yep, i meant the 14s

what year truck, mine is 1986. i think they were smaller fenders

I got 225 70 R14 uniroyal liberator a/t's on my 84 2wd from walmart. I'm surprised how well it goes even when there is no weight in the bed. The sidewalls seem heavier duty than the sissy all seasons that I replaced.

it does have smaller fenders, but a 225/70R14 will still fit in there well.

*checks some numbers*

Hmm... a 225/70R14 is almost an inch larger, 26.4" diameter. 195/75R14 measures out to 25.5"

So really any 14" size that measures out to 25.5" outside diameter (+/- .3" or so) should be fine. That'll keep your speedometer fairly accurate.

so just to be certain, that is the size that the door lists right?
