Is anyone using this transfer case on their rangers?

Does anyone know the difference in the gear ratio between the 1354 & 1356? I know the chain is close to the same length but the case on the 1356 looks a bit longer than the 1354. I did not have a tape measure with me to measure it.

I am considering swapping to the 1356 due to it having all the right stuff for my build, like the manual shift, mechanical speedometer and front u-joint yoke.

Um, the 1354 has all of that too if you go back far enough.

Look around the early 90s.

Two main differences in those case is the torque rating, that 1356 built tough. The problem with it is it's size, need to shift things to the passenger side a tad and still might have fitment problems. Got a rebuilt one sitting in the garage that I'm never going to use - my normal change of plans.

My original plan was to get an older 1354 but after going through 4 junk yards the only Xfer cases I have been finding are the newer 1354s, and the 1350s, 1356s, 208s. I am thinking I will just hold off and look for a 203 to match up with the 205 I have sitting here.

This just made think of it, either way I go I will have to switch over to a Mechanical speedometer, so will this effect my computer? If so in what ways?

You do know the 13-56 is a 6 bolt/31spline case (full size pattern) and wont bolt up to the Ranger trans? Right?

It has been a little while since I have been down there but there is a green 92 ford ranger at Colorado Auto parts (Oxford & Santa Fe) that has a 1354 manual shift and all the linkage etc that would be exactly what you need.:icon_thumby:
