Hello all, new member here... Just got done with my ranger around a month ago.

The motor had the typical problems and I used the article from the tech library here to take it apart and clean it. It does work after that but it also doesn't at times. I decided to go ahead and get another motor and be done messing with it. However, the new motor I got from Autozone (Dorman part#600-800) doesn't have a piece that the old motor has. I believe it is the magnetic sensor that detects what range the t-case is in if I read the article right. The new one doesn't have it included, and it is missing the 2 prongs in the connector along with the center prong which I believe would be the ground?

My question to you guys would be what is supposed to be done? Is this model not usable because it doesn't include the sensor or? Will I have to transfer the old sensor over to the new motor somehow? Please help, I'd really like to get this taken care of!

Thanks again.

I believe that the connector you have circled in the picture is what's missing from the new motor? When I changed mine out (with a Ford motor) a long time ago, I had to push those two pins out of the large connector and pull them into the new one. It's been awhile since I've even looked at one though.

IIRC, that's the speed sensor (tells the controller not to shift into lowrange if over 3 MPH).

Not sure if it'll work without it, although it sounds like a simple thing to swap/splice it over to the new one.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I read wrong what that sensor does, so thanks again for the correction.

I did however figure out that you can release the pins in the 10 pin harness so that you can just transfer them over to the new motor. Very simple, actually. I just sort of got worried when I opened the box and that wasn't included with the motor's harness (mechanically I'm pretty decent, but electrical stuff makes me uncomfortable).

However in my search of another motor that had the sensor included, besides figuring out that you just swap in the old, I found one $35 cheaper than Autozone's price at a local auto parts warehouse. Anyway I'll be putting the new motor in tomorrow, hopefully everything goes well.
