I'm pretty sure the 1354 has a chain. When I crawled under and checked for play in the shafts, I could feel and hear the the chain take up slack. I had chain driven NP t cases in my Jeeps and never needed to replace a chain. But this one feels like there is about 3/4" slack in it. Is this another " while you are in there " kinda part? TIA

Well it is chain driven, but I've never heard of them wearing out like that.

I've heard of them outright breaking, but only rarely. Is it giving you problems? If it still works I wouldn't worry about it.

X3

I've snapped the rear output shaft on 1.
I've snapped 2 front output shafts.
I've had 1 pump mess up and completely wipe out everything in the case from no oil pressure.

BUT, I've never worn out a chain.
