I recently bought a manual knob from the "shiftser" to replace the motor on 1354 transfer case. I removed everything electrical from the case. I was unaware there was an electric coil/clutch for front output. If there is a fork to move this clutch, why does it need a coil?? what do I need to do to use the manual rotating knob(motor replacement) without any electronics or do I have to run a wire to this coil?? please help!!!

The coil and clutch are there to spin up the front output components before the shift occurs. It helps to get a smoother meshing of the gears. Or at least that is what I have been told.

Since you are hopefully not using the shiftster to put it in 4x4 while the vehicle is in motion you don't really need to worry about that.

Thanks for the info. Makes since.....now. I just couldn't figure it out no matter how long I stared at it.

Please report back on your Shiftster experience. I am shifting with a pair of needle nosed vise grips that I have wired in place. The only advantage the Shiftster has over this are its spring loaded detentes. The 1354 shifts into 2 wheel if left to its own devices when run in 4 high with the hubs unlocked. I need to crawl under and move the tip of the triangular selector to six o'clock which is 4 high. Everything is marked in embossed letters. I painted them white. If the Rat was a daily driver, I'd fix it better. But its running on summer gas and the tires are squashy. :D

i have been using a shiftster on my e case for about a year now. still working really well, only complaint is that sometimes its a pain to turn. ive found that its easiest to turn while the rig is running and in neutral; but im always worried about the rig rolling over me while im under there. other than that its just messy down there after going mudding. bottom line, i would buy another shiftster before messing with a shift motor.

it took the guy a few days to ship out my order, i emailed him and asked why it was taking so long, he confirmed that hes a 1 man operation.. it was also some kind of holiday. i only ordered ground shipping. the guy shipped it with 2 day shipping.
