this may be a dumb question but I've gotta learn sometime. will a 1350 from an 88 ranger with an a4ld bolt up to my 96 with the m5od? I guess my question is if they have different mounting patterns.

The front driveshaft output is different. You would need to use the driveshaft that goes with the 1350 and shorten it's tube one inch.

The shifter might be different as well, but not sure.

yeah I read about the different outputs. I'm asking cause I'm gonna build the 1350/54 doubler, so new d-shafts are gonna be manditory anyways. so pretty much any manual 1350 will bolt to my m5od? the linkage is just round stock right? so I could modify the linkage to work for my application?

i believe the A4LD and M5OD use the same t-case shift linkage...but you may want to verify this.

all 1350/54's from the dawn of time until present day use the same 5 bolt pattern and will bolt from any trans to any trans (RBV trans that is).

Except for those from 5.0L Exploders.

One thing I think was over looked is the difference in shift levers on the t-cases. The manual 1354 that I have has a shift lever that is bent and a post that points inboard. This was to clear the the yoke and double cardan driveshaft. The 1350's I have seen have straight shift levers and the post is pointed outboard.

I have some pic's on my web site at: http://www.mappyjack.com/Shifter.htm

I would use a M5OD shifter to a 1354 t-case and switch out the doubler shift lever when you build you doubler out of your 1350. The levers all interchange. I would think parts would be easier to find for that than trying to get a set up for a M5OD to 1350. And you might even end up changing the shift lever from a short to a long anyway.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
