Over the weekend I installed a 3g alternator from a 94 V6 Mustang into my 91 3.0 Ranger. I believe any 3g alternator with a 7" pivot mount should work. It bolted in without any modification to the brackets. The plug from my truck that goes into the voltage regulator plugged right into the new alternator. I cut the white wire from the other plug that was originally in the truck and attached it to the one that came with the new alternator that looked like

The other 2 wires in the plug are the output wires and I put ring terminals on and hooked them up to the stud on the back of the alternator along with a new 4 gauge wire that I ran to the starter solenoid. It was a very simple install and should be a great improvement.
