12volt/lighter plug question....

I have a 2005 ranger and i have 2 12volt plugs one on driver one on passenger and i would like to use the one on the driver side as a lighter, i went out and bought a lighter and it worked one time and then blew the fuse, so i replaced the fused and tried it again and same thing. anyone know of a way to stop this from happening? Thanks

You need a lighter socket not a accessory socket.
