:bawling: my 90 ranger 2.9 V6 is only getting 11 MPG. and the only code it keeps spitting out is a code 77 during the KOEO No wide open throttle detected, i just changed the TPS on friday and i did not get the code for the whole day after i changed it and cleared the computer but tonight it came back on ???? it runs great except for getting lousy MPG

list of fixes: air filter, cap, roter, plugs, wires, belts, most hoses, TPS, IAS, fuel filter, valve gaskets, oil change, and injectors cleaned.

any thoughts or guidance??

k so i tested the injectors all 6 tested between .014 and .015 according to my book there with in spec so i was told to check the MAF and MAP sensor mine is pre MAF so my next question is how to check the MAP it does not say anything about it in my book. and iv done MPG testing twice and getting 11.25 both times.

?????????????:icon_confused:

well after testing the injectors ( a couple of them moved around quit a bit) i got the best MPGs since i have owned about 16 for a day then back to 11 :bawling: so i am thinking that the seals need to be changed on the injectors sound good? if so what all am i going to need? injector seal kits, plunem gasket, any thing else?

just changed it new 2 weeks ago

Definitely check your fuel pressure.

Spray a small amount of carb cleaner around any area that can leak vacuum to test your theory about the injector o-rings/vacuum leak, and listen for your engine to surge.

If you were driving around and seen your check engine light illuminate, you need to check for KOEO and Stored Memory codes, not KOER. The 77 code means you didn't press the throttle when the computer sent the "goose" pulse during the KOER test.

TPS is also testable with an analog meter. 3 wires - one is 5 volt constant reference, one is ground, other is the signal to the computer. The TPS is a simple variable resistor or potentiometer.

Check out this site for info on testing some of the sensors:
