1 Ton Ranger Build

this things awsome and im so glad your keeping the bed it looks waaaay better in my opinion. have you figured out ur total lift? ( i know u said 5" but did it end up changing)

I will definitly be keeping the bed at least until I bash it up so bad I have to remove it. Plus it helps keep it street legal.

And I'm not sure on the lift, that was just a guess....I would like to know myself, and if it does anywhere it will be going down, I still think its a little tall for my liking. I will let you know when I get back into the states.

Any updates or are ya still catching up on the drinkin.and the girlfriend?

I am actually pulling it down out of the yard and into the garage later today. Since Ive been back I had to rebuild my girlfriends escort, build a winch mount for my dads little jeep, and got out 79 f150 back wheeling to hold me over again. But now I am ready I think. Ill pull it down and start looking over the steering, probibly buy a fj60 steering box and maybe with hydro assist. Then wiring, fuel tank/cell, brake lines, lines, and a bunch of other little stuff.....

I did just sand blast my upper and lower intake. Gonna paint them high temp black one of these days.

Should be some progress soon anyways

Sounds like fun. We got an old 79 to keep me busy while the projects get finished up as well. What's special about the fj60 box? Guys around me us Toyota boxes as well for their ranger SAS's... I suppose I could search it to huh:icon_idea:

im pretty sure it is becasuse it can be tpped for hydro assist theryre strong as shit and mount to the outside of the framerail. but im not posititve

You pretty much hit the nail on the head..... Alot of boxes can be tapped for hydro assist, so thats not really a big concern, but I redid the front frame section out of 2x4 square tubing and this will mount nicely, the pitman arm is forward facing, they are strong, and fairly easy to rebuild....I just have to find one cheapish.....

i plan on copying this build just about exactly. :icon_thumby:

what year are your axles and do you plan to run a truss on the front?

i agree with keeping the bed. how else would i haul a load of mulch/dirt/gravel? my wifes sunfire? i think not.

love the build. waiting for updates

Well hopefully you can steal some of my tips from this build. But it might not be done for a while as I have alot of other hobbies, but ive been making progress lately....

I decided to just use the older 79 f150 steering gear box as it was free and just needs seals rather than the fj60 box....

Well after getting the pinion angles close I removed the engine to finish cleaning it up. Honed the cylinders, new water pump, HV oil pump, longer pickup tube for 7qt pan, new timing chain, new timing cover, polished valve covers, ported the heads as much as I could without removing valves, cleaned engine and heads and painted ford blue. Still needs finishing but im making progress.....It is already bored .060 over so It is actually a 362ci

This pic is of the rough porting....is alot smoother now.

Oh then I broke my back doing some MX. So I won't be able to do much but small things.
Thats what friends are for....haha....

i was so happy to see this thread was back! definetly one of my favourite trucks. but it sucks that you broke your back... hope its just a small thing and not the kinda break that makes you not able to do all the fun stuff anymore

I got really lucky. I broke one vertebra in half and a few other parts here and there. But dident do any cord damage. With my back brace I was up walking three days later. I have to wear the back brace for a couple months and then maybe a little therpy.....Should make almost 100% recovery....

sorry to hear about your back brother. That is definitely one bad ass truck you have there. I'll definitely be lurking through this thread too.

I will definitely be watching this build. hopefully you have a speedy recovery man.

Ok I am in a perdicament. The injectors that came with the truck were so badly corrodid that I broke them taking them out. So I need a new set of used injectors on the cheap. The ones that came in it were Orange top 19lb injectors, I need something at least 19-24. I am willing to spend a little bit but not top dollar as they are on ebay for around 50-60 bucks for used sets of 19's. I would just like to buy them from a local person....let me know what you have!!!

Oh and how do I get the cool Military Member or 1 ton member badge under my screen name????????
