I suddenly lost power while on the highway today in my 87 ranger. I pulled over to see if I had any smoke, but nothing. So I started pulling spark plug wires to see which one it was. Sure enough cylinder 1 was a misfire. When I took out the spark plug I found that the electode and all insullation had been melted off. After replacing the spark plug, I was able to regain power, although I now I have a bad sputter at idle. So my question is what could have done this? I will note that I have gone through 2 spark plug wires on that same cylinder because the guts end up comming out when I pull the wire off my spark plug- which could be due to heat.
