If you guys had a say, 2004-ish 2wd manual Ranger (supercab is my preference) and you wanted to have a vehicle that was used to commute 40 min to work on ~40-50mph long, sweeping curved roads with railroad crossings, large humps (that would get you to catch air at maybe 60mph), what would you do to make it more “fun”?

I’d like a BFG Mud Terrain-like tread TBD and 4” bulge front fenders and maybe 2” lift. I’d like to improve the suspension compliance and generally toughen up the truck for my commute (which is in the wee hours on desolate roads) and those times when a dirt road calls to me.

What reasonably priced shocks (not $600 Fox), what would you do with the front springs (~2” lift) and what about making the rear better able to absorb impacts yet still be compliant.

Please don’t direct me to Camburg. This truck will be my daily driver and I’m trying to keep it low budget.

Thanks!

Just had another thought: think SST (Stadium Super Truck) only much milder. I want to lighten the truck as much as possible while keeping the basics as well.

Sounds like you was a Dune Buggy with a bed.?

I actually want a truck that caught Prerunner Syndrome And is just starting to show symptoms.

I think you should look at rally race builds for ideas. They don't have an awful lot of travel yet take jumps. I think you need to rethink the shocks ie; put the money into shocks first. But this is just a WAG on my part as I haven't worked on anything newer than my 93.

Look at used and price out rebuild kits. I bought a pair of 18" kings for C$200 and the rebuild kit for both is C$350. Prices in the states are a lot cheaper. You can also look on alibaba if you can wait awhile, they may be cheap enough to take a chance on.
