Is this feasible? Putting a 2009 2wd ranger 8.8 in a 1990 ranger with a 7.5. The 09 does have rabs and disc brakes

I haven't contacted the seller yet, but here is a pic the seller says it's 2009. What do you think? Without seeing the tag.Yes. But the Library says...if it has disc brakes its '10-11 axle

Ford 8.8-Inch Rear Axle History & Specs - The Ranger Station
Usage: The Ford 8.8-Inch axle came in a few different vehicles including the: Ford Mustang (1986-2014) Ford Bronco (1983-1996) Ford F-150 (1983-2012) Ford Ranger (1990-2011 4.0L models) Ford Aerostar (1989-1997) Ford Explorer (1991-2001) (The Ford Explorer Sport still used the … Continuedwww.therangerstation.comAnd it wouldn't have RABS, but it would be set up for ABS (part of the anti spin controls...)
So, there are some qualifications:
The '09 is going to an inch wider per side, i.e. 2" wider overall. Depending on the wheels/tires you run, you might not notice. If it is an ABS axle, you will need to "simplify" the brake lines ('90 has single line, the '10-11s have individual wheel lines. You might also need a proportioning valve, especially if you '90 has 9" drums. You will need to rig up the parking brakes (cables will be different length than your existing axle). There may be differences in the u-joint/axle flange on the driveshaft.
Seller could be going off of the build date on the door tag. 2010 models start being built around mid 2009, so first half have a 2009 build date.here is a pic the seller says it's 2009.

What is the goal? Disc brakes, gear change, better axle, or repair?
Someone mentioned a different axle flange. I think you should be G2G on that. I think the change over happened in the late 80s. If not, I believe that I have got a post around here with the yoke p/n needed for the larger flange.
Wonderful. Gonna be a couple weeks before I get it if he holds it. The 7.5 in the truck has a lot of end play and it has almost 200k miles on it. And I wanted an 8.8 to upgrade somewhat. The front came out of a 92 the ext cab w/4.0 and the rear in the same truck was 8.8 LS. I eventually want to go to a 4.0 also. It's kind of a long story but I sold 2 rangers to my son in law and he finished my project and gave the truck back to me. He kept the 92 for the 8.8 LS and won't part with it. Mine is a 90 with a 2.9.Seller could be going off of the build date on the door tag. 2010 models start being built around mid 2009, so first half have a 2009 build date.
