I`m looking into a new truck. While at the dealer, there was an 07 fx4 [non lv2] sitting next to a 'flock' of 08`s [all brand new]. The 07 sits A LOT higher , very notable. Now I want a 2007,cause it looks more like a 4x4. I guess ford must have put lighter torsion bars in front, yet the payload capacity of the 08 is supposed too be more?? But the older trucks definitely sit higher than the new08`s:headbang:. any comments--anyone else notice this???

I don't know why but in 08, the Rangers are 1 1/4" lower in the back and about 3/4" in the front. It is easily changed by swapping 3" blocks from a 83-2007 4x4 Ranger, new U-bolts and cranking the torsion bars slightly.

thanks for the comment bentbolt. do you know this for sure, I was thinkin they used lighter bars in the front, but I was`nt sure about the back.

I'm positive. In fact, there are only about 3 or 4 different torsion bars for all SLA Rangers and Explorers from 95 to 08.

i bought an 08 sport 4x4.. i did notice it was slightly lower than my 03 edge.. kinda pissed me off. but **** its such a nice truck compared to the edge im not complaining. :) finaly moved to the 4.0l

Hey cooke, what color is your truck? I might see it around some time, and I have to agree going from a 3.0 (or 2.3) to a 4.0L is night and day.

I know bent bolt says he does not know why, but does anyone know why?? I just bought a 08 sport. I almost didn't buy it because it seemed so mu smaller. my 02 xlt was definetly higher.

Anyone have any news, or thoughts on this ???

Same here. I had a hard time making the decision, but it IS such a nice truck. I think it rides nicer than my 02, and the 4.0 seems to be more powerful!

I think you just answered your own question..........because it rides nicer at the lower height.

And I suspect that the lower height helps with aerodynamics and fuel economy.

.

I would guess fuel economy, ducking it out of the wind a little.

Look on the bright side--easier to load and get in and out of. I'm tired of climbing UP into things. Before this I had to fall DOWN into things. I just want to stick my butt in the door and the seat be right there.

Call me the Goldilocks of automobiles.

also, tire size has something to do with height. back in 2000 (when i bought my truck) the 4x4 rangers came with 235's. mine came with 245's (i now have 265's) anyways, people kept asking me why my truck was higher than theirs. i explained about the bigger tires. and torsion bar crank.

When I had my first Ranger, a '99 4x4, another Ranger owner asked me what I did to lift it.
"Nuthin', it came that way."
My '02 had a little bit of rake to it that the '99 did not but later I turned up the torsion bars and put 265's on it.

Try 1 In Lift In Front

I Just Tryed To Lift The Truck 1 Inch In Front To Level It Out And It Helps Out Alot. It Is A Little Stiffer Much Not Really Noticable. All I Adjusted Was The Bolt Sticks Out 1/2 In Out On The Left And Almost An 1 In On The Right Don't Know Way They Are Setup Like That, But I Adjusted Them To 1/4 In Out On The Left And 3/8 In Out On The Right And I Got A Even 1 In Lift And More Level Look And Even Can Put 265/75r16 On There And No Rubbing. You Dont Really Notice It When You Are Looking At It But It Makes A Hugh Difference, Alot Better 4 Wheeling. More Groung Clearence

I disagree with this. I took measurement comparisons, between and 05 FX4 and my 08' and both were very similar. My truck does sit lower in the front by about an inch... and was even in the rear.

I have heard that cranking our t-bars all the way on the 08's only nets us about 1-1.5" max..... i'll let everyone one know soon when i do mine.

If anyone here would like to do some height comparisons between my 08' stock and your pre 08 stock i'd like to verify things.

Measure on a level surface from the ground to the bottom of your back bumper.

also from the ground to the lip of your wheel well openings, front and rear.
