I have an 06 FX4 Level 2 and would like to replace the fender flares on it with a set from an 05. (Or something similar) Looking to get away from the fake bolt molded into the ones on my 06. Will the ones from an 05 fit my 06 without sheetmetal work?

Thanks! Doug

Yes. Rangers from 1993 to 2011 all use the same flares.

Really? My 06 has the taller ones with the fake hex head presumably molded into them to emulate a fastener. Any 05's I see have a flare that appears to be about 2/3 as tall as mine, with no bolts molded into them.

Was wondering if the mounting holes in an 06 fender were the same as on an 05. I am not sure I am real crazy about the ones that came on my 06. This issue is why I originally was looking for an 05 until mine came up for sale as clean as it is and with just 40k miles a few weeks ago.

Check on the back of the bedside to see if there are any bolts sticking through (you will be able to see them along the entire arch of the fender if so). If you don't see any you'll be ok to use any fender flares you choose (from 1993 to 2011) but, if yours are true "bolt on flares" you will be left with exposed holes if you go with a smaller flare.

There are no bolts, just plastic tabs sticking through the holes in the fender to hold these on.

These are stock flares which differ in appearance from the same model from the previous year. The Hex bolt head I mentioned is just molded in and.....looks like a fake bolt. Thus my interest in fitting the 05 style to it.

I'll figure it out eventually, just wondered if anyone else had done this mod. Actually this issue had me looking for an 05 but this one came up and I thought I could live with these flares after all! TYVM!

I think he is talking about the Ford factory flairs that had fake bolts. I would call a Ford dealer parts department and ask them if a 05 and 06 Ranger front fender with flair is the same part number. If it is you should be able to swap flairs
