I want to replace my existing Taillights Assy (Stop/Directional/Park in one bulb) with the three part units from 1998, Separate Directionals in the Amber section.

I have the taillights and I know I can take the existing wire from the brake/turn signal and use it for just the signals if I disconnect the brake light wire at the brake light switch BUT...

To get a new signal to the Brake lights I need to run a wire from the brake light switch to the brake light connection on the new taillights, sounds easy right.

My problem starts here, if I take the existing brake light wire off of the load side of the brake light switch, will this cause any other systems in the vehicle to go bonkers.

My first thoughts are the ABS, the Shift lock in an automatic (mine is a 5 sp but) and maybe others.

If this wire is connected to other systems, is there a way around it ?

Thanks a head of time.

You would be opening a BIG can of worms for that one.

I was thinking the same thing but there must be a way around it other than to rewire the Dash ?

Maybe a signal diverter that will pickup the brake signal and drop it off in never, never land and let the directional signal through ?
Any good auto electrical wizards out here that can come up with the schematics ?

If your wanting to spend the money then yeah you can do it. I am sure there are companies out there who specialize in what you want.

Usually people want to go the other way, lol
I would think there would be some kind of signal converter.

Hey guys,

Anyone have any other ideas ?

u can use a write up that is in the library for converting the 3 bulb into 1, using the trailer connector under the bumper. u can take your separate signals from there i guess
this is a crazy world isnt it?? i just want to get the opposite, 01 tails and 1 bulb system lol!!

It is a crazy world no matter is going on !

Thanks for the info.

OK I read the write up, help me out please... i still have brake/turn wires for both sides, is there a way to separate them ?
If for some reason I can turn a three wire into a five or seven wire, now that would work; didn't see anything in the write up.

Some people have suggested running the new brake wire and see what happens, I am not sure I want to do that.

I can do the hookup based on my method but I am still up in the air.

Any auto electrical-techs out there can give there two cents on the matter ?

Is there a site where I can go and get Ford Wiring Schematics, maybe I can decipher this out with the correct one ?

thanks

hard one man.... what if u wire your lights using only the trailer connector wires??? there u must have separate turn and stop wires, thats what i think and your parking lights must be wired to the stock parking light wires in your tails

Thanks for the reply.
I will double check the wiring at the rear in the next couple of days and let the site know what I have found out.

Thanks again,

E-Mailed Daniel Stern on his web site and his response was to use the existing brake wire for the new turn signals and add a new brake light wire, per my original idea.
Supposedly there is no other components taking a signal form the brake switch other than the brakes.

i will be doing the Flareside conversion as soon as I get a few more small parts and will do the electrical mod at that time.

thanks to all for the information and I will let the site know what is up.

cool i did my swap today!!! converted to 01-05 tails and single bulb system  works wonderful, as stock
i did a little thread in the showoff section, feel free to visit lol! hope u can get this done
