Anybody had this issue..

My previous truck was an 02 ranger and never had this issue..

My 2006 ranger.. Got in truck this morning and put key in Ignition, go to turn and NOPE.. tried jiggling.. NOPE, so i go back in house bring out my spare, put that in and try to turn... NOPE! like its the wrong key.....

Hmm my mothers Honda had this issue last winter, so I know the tricks to try and did them all.. NOPE, finally last trick..got my mini hammer.. put the key in the cyl and tapped the key WHILE TURNING. so doin 2 things at once and it turns freely, I go back and fourth and it turns freely.. NOW, i take key out put back in and NOPE, wont turn.. tap again as im turning and no problem turns!! soo it turns freely when I first break it loose but as soon as key comes out and goes back in it locks up BUT if you leave key in it turns off/on no problem!!

Ive since sprayed it with TRI FLOW and it turns freely now and doesnt lock up BUT again i just sprayed it and tried a couple times, real test wait n see tomoro and next few days.....

I rememberd my mothers car turned freely too til the next day or so and hers locked up again... hope mine dont do that. She eventually had to replace her lock cylinder 500$ by locksmith

Autozone sells the lock cylinder with a new set of keys. You had better get the old one out and the new one in before it completely falls apart, and then you have to take a big screwdriver and hammer and break it out (yes that is the factory procedure if you do not have a key or the key doesn't work).

You will have to find the procedure on yours, but usually if you have the key and can get it to turn (I would take the battery cable off) get to turn and then there is usually a little hole you put a small punch in or some other device like a small nail, and release the lock cylinder.

Yes you will have a different set of keys, but I do not know what the big deal is about that. Many cars have different keys for the door and the ignition. Beats spending $500 for a locksmith. I think Autozone wants $36.00 for the new cylinder and two keys.

key goes in and out No problem, just didnt wanna turn. It was like It was the wrong key! i sprayed it and see what happens in comin days

I would try spraying some cleaning solvent in the slot and running the keys.
get the gunk out, then lube it.

yes if happens again, i will spray brake clean in there and then lube it with TRI FLOW....... but today, ok , went to a few errands and lock worked 100% today after spraying with TRI FLOW.. so far so good

Try electrical contact cleaner first. Less smelly and less likely to damage something than brake cleaner.
