02 sensor stuck

I hate to ask these kinds of questions, but my truck sat for years, and I got it running, but the 02 sensor is likely bad. It is for sure, now, as I cut the wires and broke the body off. I hit it with penetrating oil pretty good, and I can get a socket and 1/2" ratchet on it, but I can't beat it loose with a hammer, and I can't get it to turn with a pipe. Even strapped the ratchet to my buddy's truck and had him drive away! :headbang:

Has anyone ever drilled a new bunghole to run the sensor? Usually I find a way (heat, penetrating oil, prayers) with stuck stuff, but this has to be the tightest I've ever seen, and it's in a terrible location (can't get impact wrench on it).

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tom

Try heating up the exhaust, i.e. run the engine then shut it off
Then spray compressed air, or drip cold water, on to O2 sensor to cool it.

Hot metal expands, cool metal contracts, so that should loosen the O2 sensor a bit, and maybe enough to break it loose.

Next stop for me would be a muffler shop, they remove rusted parts daily, they know all the tricks and have all the tools, I know that breaks with DIY rules but.............I would drive it to the shop myself :)

Hey Ron,
I hear ya, I have a guy not too far away who I trust, and who wouldn't rip me off....he's usually pretty busy, though, so I'm gonna keep trying for now. I unhooked the exhaust at the flange, so I'll just heat it up with the hot wrench!
Thank you!

Last time I had one of those I took the y-pipe down to work, heated it up with the torch and popped it with the impact gun.

Many places offer 18mm o2 bungs for a DYI install, it isn't a big deal to ad one to an existing exhaust. The problem is that where that stock hole is is quite a good location. If you do pull the Y-pipe and can't extract the old sender, I wouldn't hesitate to weld in another next to it.

Finally came off. Kept hitting it with PB blaster every day, finally came off like nothing. Next to the angle grinder and torch, my 3rd favorite tool! Thanks guys.
