2002 Ranger Edge 4.0L 4X4 slave cylinder, rear pinion seal, clutch,pp and t/o bearing.
Anything else I should do or look at while the trans and everything are down?

Any issues that may help are also appreciated. Tips Tricks.

The trans and transfer case are left to take down.

I can also use the specs on the fluids and capacities if anyone has them.

Does the shift lever unbolt by the single nut and threaded rod through the base of the shifter or from the 4 torx?

And the CAT to the "Y" pipe connection. Dealer said the bolts are not available. They are studs pressed in. What should I use just a SS bolt not and washer?

Is there a gasket or "O" ring of anykind used at the manifold from the "y" PIPE?

Thanks for your help

you do not have to take down the y pipe inorder for you to drop the trans, while u are under the truck id take a look at any other bushings on the underside, control arm etc. as they tend to wear. the 4 bolts on top is what takes out the shifter, i believe the trans takes about 2.7 litres of ATF, and the t-case just a little bit less then that of atf

Thanks.

The Y pipe is down. I couldn't see it coming out w/o the pipe down. O well.

Just any ATF at all. Not gear oil in the transfer case? Just ATF?

I haven't owned a 4x4 or truck for that matter In 25 years. Out of touch.

You don't need to remove the shifter out of the trans. if you don't want to. Take the big nut off of the bolt holding the handle on and thread it onto the opposite end and tighten it. It'll pull the wedge bolt out. And yes, if you break one of the studs holding the cat. to the y-pipe your only option is to knock it out and replace it with a bolt and nut. Happens all the time.

I'm having trouble removing the transfer case from the trans.
What else holds it on besides the 5 bolts?

What a job this is for a $71 part. Its hard when you're worling alone too. You can always use another set of hands.

Anybody know what this job costs at the stealership or garage, gotta be about $700 bucks.

As far as those bolts on the CAT I cut and then drilled them out, (no torches available)

Thanks again for your help

I had trouble also getting the transfer case off even tho I had all the bolts out. It is likely that the dowels in one side of the case are somewhat corroded into the holes in the other side of the case. I can't remember if there are 2 sets of dowels, or one, but try and force a putty knife or thin object between the 2 cases and tap with a hammer around and eventually the dowels should put out of their holes. After you get it out, clean the dowels with something and put never seize on them so the next time they won't hold tight.

It ended up being some type of dampener, I forget what it was called. A friend of mine mentioned to look for it and if I had one it had to be removed before the transfer case could come down.

On the back of the transfer case 4 bolts that their location had nothing to do with the transfer case connections but only reveiled the drain and fill plugs.

It was quit a job for a novice like me. But it's done and all is well.

Changed the rear pinion seal (I think) as well, it was all wet back there.

Thanks for everyones help
