I am confused:icon_confused: I have read a few posts up here that say that a 02' Fx4 and a 03' Fx4 Level II are the same thing. Does anyone have any info to prove such a thing? I have a July 02' Fx4 with the chrome shifters and the funny to material seats w/black interior, stainless tow hooks, and the skid plates. I found through car fax that it has been in a 'minor accident' twice, so the valance is an XLT valance instead of a Fx4. Does my truck qualify, if this is true?

sounds like youve got it figured out. in '02, there wasnt a level 2. the 'fx4 off road' was the only fx4 package. its got all of the same features as the later level 2 trucks.

My '02 was an FX4 built in July of '02 (totaled in August of '03:bawling:). My replacement FX4 Level II was built in August of '02, and is an '03 model.

OP has it right.....

2002 4x4 Off Road = 2003 Fx4 Off Road
2002 Fx4 Off Road = 2003 Fx4 Level II

In '03, the old 4x4 Off Road package was renamed Fx4 Off Road, and there needed to be seperation between the 'big bad daddy' with the bilsteins, 31spline, black interior, special seats, stainless hooks and trimmed valence for those hooks, black exterior plastics, manual tcase on manual trans equipped trucks, etc....you know...all the special stuff.

'02 FX4OR vs '03 Fx4LII : YES, equipment wise, option wise, they are equivilents to each other. But there are yearly differences that were spread Ranger wide. Things that changed on the '03 models are things like the silver gauges and silver radio bezel on XLT models(Fx4 included), door panel update, seat upholstery update, etc.

From your description, the truck is a '02 Fx4OR.

You mentioned wanting proof....

Here's the best I can provide you from my actual visual records of wrecked trucks(in which I stole parts from. lol)...

I could take pics of the '02 Ranger brochure and the '03 Ranger brochure...both show the '02 Fx4OR and the '03 Fx4LII are the same truck, just name changed. But I don't know where I have those hid at. lol.

I call these trucks 'the holy grail' trucks. Both trucks are identical except for color and year. Some picked over more than the other.....but note all the exacting similarities to prove that indeed, a 2002 Fx4 Off Road IS infact the equivilent to a 2003 Fx4 Level II.

I forgot to upload the door tags....if you want those I can upload 'em and post 'em for ya.

:yahoo: I have always wanted to know. It makes me love my truck even more. I did not know if the interior shifters were factory, but now I know. Thanks for the info and the pics. I need to see no more. I love this site and its members  Thanks again to everyone.

did they only make FX4 in manual trans?

They also had an 4x4 Off Road in '03. I test drove one before I bought my '97.

did they only make FX4 in manual trans?
No. In fact the vast majority were automatics, so the one in the junkyard there is a pretty rare bird. Also I'm pretty sure that the manual transfer case only came on manual transmission models. I'd say grab the rear end out of it too. :icon_hornsup:

Only 87863 miles!

One more thing: the color, is it a standard or does everyone just like it?

Guess how I've gotten two complete twinstick interiors??? The yard said they were aftermarket, so I ran with it. hahahaha!

did they only make FX4 in manual trans?

No. Most of them are autos, even the newer models....they're pretty rare in manual trans/manual case layout which only came on the 02 Fx4OR and 03 Fx4LII.

I'd say grab the rear end out of it too. :icon_hornsup:

If that was directed towards me....I didn't need one, already had a 4.88 geared 31spline 8.8 out of a 38,000 mile '05 Fx4 Level II. hehehe. My buddy nabbed the one shown in the pics.

damn Fx4wannabe. i love that truck. where did you get those rims

They are ProComp Xtreme Steel 51 series. 15x10 w/ 4" backspace. Bought for about $60 a rim from America's Tire.

Fx4wannabe, that is an awesome truck....

Thanks! Same with yours! If I was smart, I would've just paid the extra 3,000 for the PERFECT truck in the beginning...but it's funner making a clone and parts hunting for 5 years! lol. I wouldn't normally just whore it like I did, but it just sorta had to happen! Mention Fx4 twin sticks AND DWB...it happens. haha.

Thanks alot for the compliments guys. I've got some more things to do to it, then I'll finally officially whore it in my own thread here.
