02 ford ranger twist knob 4x4

i just bought a 2002 ford ranger xlt with the 3.0L motor and it wont activate the 4 wheel drive when you twist the knob..... any sudgestions?

First try the simple, check the fuse and make sure the switch works. Check any wires/connectors/vacuum lines to the transfer case. If all of these are fine then more troubleshooting is required.

mine went bad on my 96 and it was the shift motor on the back side of the case. napa sells a new one for 120 i think and that fixed it

like dangerranger said, alot of times is just the shift motor, happened to me too. take the motor off and test it to see if its shot, i think that's usually what goes on the newer push buttons. that or the fuse
