im thinking about buying a 02 ford ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 v6 and putting a 6 inch lift and 32" tires on it will the truck be under powered with the tire and lift combo

thanks

1. There is no 6" lift kit available for 98+ Rangers.
2. You don't need any lift at all to fit 32's on an '02. Just turn up the torsion bars in front 1.5" or so and they will fit fine.
3. If your truck has 4.10 gears and an automatic you could live with it. If it has 3.73's or a manual tranny then you would be better off with 4.56 gears.

Superlift 4". Also it is the ONLY lift kit for '02+ 4x4 Rangers (unless you want to drop $5000+ for the Dixon Brothers desert racing setup). You could add a 2" bodylift on top of that, but like I said, you don't need that to fit 32's. The Superlift 4" will fit 33's and with a 3.0 you will definitely need gears to turn them, either 4.56 or 4.88. The 3.0 makes most of its power at higher rpm.

ok i think il go with a 2 inch body lift and 32s. do you know of some cheap ways to add horsepower to this motor

No. In fact there aren't ANY ways to add hp. :D
A K&N, Gibson exhaust, a tuner like an XCal III, and maybe headers will all cost about $1000 and add maybe 10 hp. :icon_rofl:
Best bet with bigger tires is just gear it.

There just isn't much available for it. It's a squirrel motor (ha!). Downside, it doesn't make a lot of power. Upsides, it's good on gas (for a 4x4) and it'll run forever. My first Ranger was a '99 3.0 4x4 Supercab.

how much will it cost to re gear it?
Prices vary around the nation (based on what I've seen on TRS for many years), but parts and installation will probably be around $800 to $1000 for both axles.

is it more of a professional job and not a do it yourself job

Yes. It is a very precision type of job and you need the right tools and know-how. I wouldn't advise doing it yourself if you've never done it before. Each ring and pinion will cost about $250 to $300 and it'll be at minimum 2 hours labor each to install, probably more for the front axle.
