02 Explorer intermittent slow start

My sister's 02 Explorer, 4.0, 4wd has done this a few times now. Turns the key, motor cranks, but very slowly. Let off, hit the key again, cranks fine, fires up. Doesn't matter hot or cold, and it's only occasional. I went out to check it out today but it wouldn't act up for me. I'm thinking the solenoid's on the way out. Want this taken care of before it leaves her and the kids stranded someplace. Ideas?

Sounds like a solenoid to me or could be the crank sensor
