02 Escape won't start

Hi guys - My mother has a 2002 Escape XLT that won't start. If you turn the key, sometimes the radio comes on and sometimes it doesn't. The THEFT LIGHT doesn't go off when you turn the key either. Prior to this, it would sometimes stall randomly in reverse. Any ideas on where to start?

maybe the key isnt programmed to the car? happens sometimes, or maybe someone at a parking or sometihing damaged the key(dont ask me how that could happen)
about the stall, it could be a bad coil, a friend of mine had an escape and had that issue, a coil went bad. or worst the ecu is going nuts. thats all i can think right now, hope it helps

Some of the lower quality keys lose their programming, Other times its the p.a.t.s. system inthe computer that goes haywire. Either way a Ford dealership can check it out (kinda costly though) Either of these problems will have both of those results.

Thanks guys - we have a family friend that works at a Ford dealer that could check it out... we just have to figure out how to get it there!
