Hey guys, i did some searching via google and got all sorts of different answers but nobody with the same truck so i thought i'd try here. I also read that its common to get a very inaccurate reading from the gas gauge in the rangers. I am only getting about 280 miles from full to when my fuel light kicks on. When my fuel light comes on and i go to the station, i put about 16.8 gallons in it, seems a bit small of a tank size to me. Anyone have the same truck happen to know the tank size?

Thanks,

Blake

An extended cab would have the 19.5 gallon gas tank. 280 MPT sounds about right. Do you have Auto or Manual? Sadly, the 3L & 4L get the same (if not only a 1-2 mpg difference) gas mileage.

Thanks EMB, im tempted to run the truck out of gas to see how far after the light comes on i can keep going. If the light comes on and i fill it up wth 16.x gallons, that means i have 2+ gallons still in there to spare, seems like that light is coming on and im at E awfully early lol. Have to keep a gas can with me if i decide to try that.

Usually about 50 miles from the light.

My '02's light came on at 353 miles nearly every time- it always got 20 MPG or better- but the most I ever put in the tank was 18.1. The gauge was hanging several needle widths below "E" at that point. I never did run it out of gas.

Thanks Snake, that is what I've been reading. I was just suprised to see the light come on and the needle at E before 300 miles, ive never had a vehicle (have owned 6 cars now in the last 10 years) hit that point before 320-340 miles so I'm assuming my gauge is off quite a bit. Only one way to find out, just need to make sure im sticking around town when i do lol. Ive reset my trip counter the last 3 times I've filled up and its been reading "empty" at 280ish each time.
