Hi im new here and this is my first thread,

sooo iv got a 01 2wd ranger with a 7.5 rear end with posi, 3.73 and drums, iv already replaced the spider gears in it and im just waiting on something else to go wrong back there. I want to replace it with an 8.8 rear end out of an explorer that has posi, 3.73, but disk brakes. This is where my problem comes in from my truck, it has 4wheel ABS not RABS from what i know, iv got 3 lines coming out of my abs thing and 2 of them go to the front and 1 goes to the back. Iv read on here that if you've got RABS this swap is no problem but im 99% sure iv got full abs and i dont know what id have to change to run disks in my truck with the 8.8.

If anyone can give me a straight answer whether or not i can just put the axle in and just plug the brake line in and not worry about a thing or if i have to change some of the brake components, also it you know of anyone who's done this same swap it would be great just to let me know. Iv searched on this site with no luck, either there is no info on this swap or im looking in the wrong place :icon_confused:

thanks alot for helping out a noob :D

It'll match up without problems.

The explorer axle has the tone ring and ABS sensor mounted to the top of it just the same as the axle that is in your truck now.

and it my master cylinder will be fine powering it?

if soo thank you soo much :yahoo:

The tone ring is the toothed gear attached to the carrier. As it spins the sensor on top of the differential sends a signal telling it how fast it is turning. The sensor should have the same connector as your current one and will be plug-n-play.

The main thing you have to worry about is welding the perches on the opposite sides of the axle tubes and fabricating a way to hook up the e-brake lines. Also, I know some of the 7.5" axles had a smaller 2.5" bolt pattern on the driveshaft flange. The 8.8" has a 3" spacing on the bolt pattern. I dont know if this would be an issue as I've never has a 7.5" axle under my rig.

And yes, your master cylinder will work fine for the exploder 8.8.
