Saturday I dropped my valve body to replace the gaskets to fix the 2-3 shift flare. Once I got it apart, there was no gasket damage, all bolt were tight. The symptoms are occasional shift flare, not every shift cycle, sometimes 500 rpm jump sometimes 1000. after driving about an hour in hot weather if I shut it off half an hour, when I start again it goes in gear ok. I take off go 100 yards to first stop sign, maybe a rolling stop, hit the gas acts like in neutral ,off the gas on again takes off ok. Then it makes a hard to describe moan, groan, sorry to say this but it almost sounds like its farting. It only does this once then I guess it cools back down and it drives ok. My question is, do you think the epc could be the problem? If not. What? Valve body still setting on work bench. All solenoids ohmed out in spec range . PS no codes no flashing OD light. .

Usually the od off lamp will flash if there is an electrical problem in the transmission. The problems you describe sound like flow issues inside the valve body. Did you get any dirt inside of it? It doesn't take Alot, a piece of lint from a rag is enough to screw it up.

Baseranger, thanks for the reply. the valve body is still sitting on my workbench. When I didn't find a gasket problem,I didn't want to put in back in without doing something. I took it down to my trans man on monday for his opinion and his opinion was that I was an IDIOT for trying to work on a valve body myself.(We all know transmissions are black magic and voodoo) So on this Saturday morning I will put it back together and see what it does. Again thanks for any and all thougths, and responses. Ps I have have this posted at another forum where all the VB Diaries and gurus are SUPPOSED to be, and have had NO responses yet.

You could always fill it with butane and hope for the best!

To me it sounds like something randomly sticking. It could be almost any valve. How many miles do you have on it? You were correct in thinking valvebody gaskets they are a common problem. If you were super sure you got all the old material off I'm going to lean toward a sticking valve. If you are going to remotely mess with them you may as well buy a shift kit while you are in there.
