I am hoping someone can help me out I am trying to find a OBDII reader that will work with my ranger. I have tried 3 bluetooth and a USB reader and none will connect to the ECU. to make sure it isn't theport I took it to autozone and had them try reading the port and it read fine.

Any Ideas?

No reason a bluetooth reader won't work, is it able to go all the way into the OBD2 connector?

OBD2 ports are the same on all vehicles sold in North America since 1995.
Access to them is not the same, lol, some are recessed so some cables or adapters won't slide in all the way.

The OBD2 protocol(method of communicating) is the same since 1996 model year.
1995 Rangers did have issues :)

And unless all 3 bluetooth adapters were from the same company, selling bogus parts, then something else is wrong.

USB drivers(needed for computer to "talk" with OBD2) are not reliable in many cases, depends on the computers software

I used 4 different brands they all seam to go in fully no matter what software I use they get all get as far as talking to ecu then fail. But they all seam to work on newer and older fords.

Thanks,

Where did you buy the readers? Some ELM327 chips are Chinese clones, especially off FleaBay and don't work very well.

If you just want to read codes you can continue to use the parts stores. I installed an "Ultra-Gauge" which works really well and gives real time sensor readings. http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/

Do you want graphing software?

yeah I picked them up off auction I am pretty sure they are clones. I intend to use them with graphing software. What is so irritating is they all will work with any other obd2 vehicle I connect them to the only thing I can seam to find it a ranger or explorer the same year as mine.

You're probably better to use a package with connector and software.

I purchased THIS the web site looks to be nothing but a sales pitch but the software does work on my Ranger, never tested it on anything else. You'll need a laptop though to run the program. Not sure what he's trying to sell it for now but I bought during a so-called sale. The ELM327 is a clone but a good one and done by the seller. ELM never registered the name or patented the software so anyone can claim "ELM". It's buyer beware.

I do find my Ranger OBDII output is pretty sparse compared to what this program will give.

As for the software I have tried pcmscan on windows and dashcommand on android and I get the same results from both.

Thanks,
Yonu

Please disregard I decided to take the usb adapter apart to check the voltages going to the adapter and it started working on my ranger so I have no idea what the problem was buyt I won't argue.
