Heya folks, back with more noises that may or may not be worrisome.
It's making a high tone echo-y rattle from passengers side, sort of in the middle of the wheel-well, it goes away mostly after a 30 minute drive @ highway speeds. I assume this would be the time to change that tensioner, I'm...
Nice. I managed to cross thread my front timing chain tensioner. I’m not sure what to do now. I’ve taken it back out carefully and threaded it back in a few times, no change. Anyone go though this?
2003 4.0 SOHC
I'm planning on changing my timing tensioners on my 01'. Are Cloyes any good or should you always go with Motorcraft? I've heard good and bad. I'll have to see if I can even get genuine Motorcraft ones, but I expect a crazy price for them.
First post here, and likely not last.
I have a 2001 Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine with around 118000mi on it. For some background I bought the truck a year ago from a guy who adored it and it was serviced to a T, with some questionable fixes that aren't major.
I do not know if he has put in...
1999 Ranger XLT, no A/C pump. ~241K miles.
I just finished replacing my belt tensioner and serpentine belt due to squeal. The squeal is eliminated, but now that it's gone I'm hearing other noises. Not sure if they were there before, and I just hadn't noticed them or if they're new. The squeal...

So I got the sheared off water pump housing bolt out. Removed the idler pulley and hit it with PB blaster and a hammer every night for a few days. Said a prayer to the car gods and clamped on the vice grips, got it out.
Put everything back together, new tensioners in, fired it up. No more...
Hey guys,
I have a 1985 ford ranger 2.3l, it's a 4 cylinder engine and my goal is to replace the water pump. I am currently trying to figure out how to release the tension to remove the two belts that going through all the components.
Maybe I lack some common sense but, I can't locate or...
I just finally narrowed down my crazy squealing on my 99' ranger xlt. Turns out my tensioner was shot, got a new one and now its not squealing at all. I don't have a chilton/haynes manual, does anyone know the proper torque spec for the 8mm mounting bolt? I don't want to have over tighten it or...
