XL vs XLT (stupid question)

the trim
the xlt is the nicer version
the xl is bench seat, and power nothing

My XL has a (stock) 60/40 seat, and power steering.

Or are you referring to generations prior to mine?
I forgot to put it in the first post i guess, but this is Gen 3 specific.

While what said above is true, there are a lot of XL trucks out there that were special ordered and have upgrades. There could be a big difference in the two, or none at all depending on who ordered it.

True true, so the different trims dont really matter all that much.
But wasnt the XLT more beefed up (bone stock) than an XL?

My XLT has manual windows and locks, with a 60/40 bench and auto trans and Electric T case. My buddies Ranger with no trim level has power everything. Honestly I dont think there is any rhyme or reason to any of the badges on the trucks.

I dont know, i always thought that the trims were like this

Ranger was just the regular truck
XLT was the beefed up, more off-road/work capable one
XL was in between those two.
And the STX was the sporty version.

The trim versions have nothing to do with the drivetrain until you get up to the FX4 and FX4 Level II, which are just a recent addition.

Back in the 80's an STX was a more off-road capable truck, now it is a lowered sporty truck.

In the early 80's the "Ranger" was actually a package to be had on the full size trucks. When chevy came out with the S-10, ford made their own line of compact trucks and called them Rangers.

As mentioned, you can add or subtract whatever you want on any trim level.

Hey there bub, gen 3 was 1993-1997
I do believe i said this thread was gen 3 specific.

You did..Where?

Next time I will stay out of the conversations, just though everyone could use some FYI.

No skin of my back.

i'd like to know, never figured out the differences.:icon_confused:

Yep, it was the third one down.
And im not like... yelling at you for it, it was a simple mistake.
Your right about the special selections though. Thats probably why they can be mixed together.
The different trims never made sense to me because of that.

i was told by a ford dealer that the difference was the XL (or Base model) had painted bumpers and grill and the XLT had chrome bumpers, grill, and black matte mirrors.

-97blackbetty my ranger is a xlt, hence power everything except seats, but it was ordered with a stick... i still don't get why it was.

That would make sense, my front bumpers painted, and thick enough to dent a tank in a collision.
Haha
