Laptop screen issues

Sooooo.....I'm not getting the part.

I got an email today saying that the parts they had (including the one I ordered) were in imperfect condition, and that they wouldn't have new ones for at least another month. They offered me a full refund, which i'm taking, and hopefully it all goes through. Guess I gotta look for another one...

I really hoped to get this damn thing running this weekend.

Son of a...... that sucks!!!

Ok, so I ordered the part. Just got it tonight, put it in, and.............nothing. On top of that...I ended up accidentally ordering a second one, which was different because it was a dual inverter, and that didn't work either. So I think it's pretty safe to assume that it's not the problem.

So, what next?

You don't by chance have your output switched to run a monitor do you? I've made the mistake of thinking there was an issue and had the output switched to VGA. The next thing to look at is the cable between the board and the screen.

As I think I suggested before Try pressing Function+F4 key to scroll through the monitor options Onboard on /External on / Both On / Both Off , NOT necissarily in that order

Tried that, but nothing changed. I can still see everything faintly in the background and can see all the windows pop up when starting up. It's just not lit up.

How do you change those bulbs that you mentioned earlier?

I think a combination of these two links should show you pretty much how to do it. I apologize for pointing you to the inverter. It's almost always the inverter in my experience. As far as getting a bulb, the link on the bottom was the best deal I found. I would also check your cables and connections by wiggling them and seeing if something's just loose or shorted.

The light is ordered and on the way. Should have it in this weekend and then we'll see what we get. Looks like a nice little project to do this weekend...along with the millions of other projects I'll be working on. I sure hope this is it. Couldn't be much else, right?

Not really because you said this:

Still could be the cable though. But in this case, most likely inverter (eliminated) or the bulb.

By the way, laptops are intimidating, as I'm sure you found with the inverter. You just have to be careful and take your time. On my own personal laptop, I got a little impatient with it and broke a tab because there was a screw I had forgotten to take out. Luckily it's not noticeable when it's reassembled.

The inverter wasn't bad at all. Smaller stuff than i'm used to working on, but it was very simple. The bulb, however, looks a bit more intimidating for sure, but if I take my time...it's still pretty simple. Gotta dig out that soldering gun though.:icon_welder: I probably can't TIG weld it....:icon_twisted:

Got the light in the mail today.

I got access to the bulb, which took a while. Turned the computer on with the old bulb to see what it did. It did as always, and lit up for a few seconds then went out. Removed the old one and soldered the new one on, and it stayed lit for as long as I had it on.

Only one problem...The damn bulb broke when I was putting it back in it's compartment. :pissedoff: I guess I should have ordered two of the mofo's! :annoyed:

I just ordered two more. Now to wait another few days. It sucks because I have all the little pieces spread out on a foot rest, a table, and a chair. I have it all set in specific places so I can put it back together....it's not moving until I do exactly that.

Soooo close! Now to wait again....

Got the parts on Monday, and soldered a new bulb in again...this time I got it in it's compartment. It's been working perfect for days. Thanks everyone!
