I wonder how that would look as a pre-runner or off-road style truck?

Ha ha, you stole the words from my mouth!

I do like that truck in particular though. I'm not much for slammed trucks, but they did a hell of a job on that one.

I agree, I'm not into slammed trucks. But I sure admire the work that was done to fit that Mountaineer gear on it.

They're not really based on anything. They were built on the CD2 platform, which was a precursor to the modern CD3 Fusion platform, and a heavily modified Mazda GF platform. The current Escape has much more in common with the CD3 chassis than anything else. The Contour was based on the earlier CDW27 which has almost no relation.

As far as power train options and suspension setup (for the front anyway) the 1st gen Escape has shares most of it's parts with the Contour. It's not strictly the same platform, but if it's related to anything, it's a Contour.

Now the second gen..... Did you guys know that it shares a transmission with the Cobalt?

It doesn't surprise me. This is going to be more common. My friend went to the latest ATRA convention and they said Aisin Warner will be the next big craze for the auto manufacturers. (specifically 6 speeds)

So if you wanted an Escape with a manual and could get parts from a Contour it could theoretically work?

Edit: Scratch that. I found out that the Escape more or less based off the Mazda 626. That had the Mazda GF platform. The Escape's platform (Ford CD2) is based off the Mazda GF platform. So to be techinically correct, it was based off the Mazda 626.

...or you could, you know, just buy an Escape with a manual trans from the factory...

Yeah, they made them but they are super rare, especially in 4x4 form and not available with the V6 at all. But, what fun would that be to just buy one already set up how you want it. We all drive Rangers, we're used to pillaging parts from other vehicles to modify our pickups to make it how we want it.:D

Those are rare in our area. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

+1

I was applying the same concept to an Escape.

yeah thats the ranger. theres another one with an explorer front end too.

i think that putting another cars front end on a diffrent one, even different brand is stupid imo. those look good beacuse the merc had almost the same lines as the rangers. but a bmw on a chevy? :bad:

I think it looks like it belongs on there. I would be very satisfied with a grille that looks like that (vertical bars), and then I could just get clear headlights.

(By the way; I'm sorry OP, I didn't mean to threadjack you)

Who cares what brands, I will see if I can't post pics tomorrow. It looks awesome. Almost looks factory.

Here it is:
Got the whole notched frame, air bags, etc, deal going on. If you look closely (i don't think you can see it in the pic..), theres a chute at the drivers rear corner where it meets the top of the bed, either that or at the very front drivers corner of the rim of the bed( Don't remember which), where a nerf dart shoots out, lol. Only boring thing about it is the engine is a stock 4 cyl.
