why hate on the a4ld?

oh, and i've never had an issue with cracked heads either... dang i'm a lucky kid!

yeah i'm getting my md05 saturday so i'm not putting money in my a4ld... lol. if i was gonna keep the a4ld i think i'd try some of it. or a shift kit..

but i'm not doing the md05 swap till i need a trans or i' finished with the axle swaps tho

but that is cool, shows the things to do for the a4ld for a performance trans.

As stated by bobbywalter, the A4LD can be built to work rather well and handle some added abuse. As you see in the link provided by 2wdmuddin, it talks about the poorly built valvebody's in the A4LD/5R55N-W-S/4R44E/4R55E/5R55E. This is exactly why I'm having my friend build mine up, those are even the same kits he uses. Mine has such a soft 2-3 shift that I notice myself trying to get up to speed in 1st and 2nd, and then feathering the pedal between the 2-3 shift because it's so annoying. These things can be built properly, it's a shame the aftermarket is where they finally receive the treatment they deserve.

The flexplate spacer on that page is the spacer that was being talked about in another thread about cracking flexplates recently.

i still think you should have to take your driving test on a manual, and change a tire to have a license.... but that's a different point.
this thread is not about auto's pussifing anything..

it's about why hating on the a4ld when i've had such good one's. like i said earlier, i have my eye on a md05 but probably won't change it out till the auto takes a dump on me...

i have nothing but issues with my a4ld, first one lost the ability to shift on its own, had to let off the gas, then get back on and it shifted, eventually it lost all forward momentum

i swapped it out for a low milage one last year, now that one lost overdrive, and won't shift until its completely warmed up, needless to say its time for the manual swap this month :headbang:

B&M Hammer shifter on the 'stang's AOD....best of both worlds.

Sorry, no. There is still a torque converter between me and my power.

The only auto that I truly trust that doesn't say "Allison" on the side, is the Torqshift.

The middle Torqshift. After they got most of the bugs out, and before they started messing with them and adding a bunch of electronics.

Torque converters are a wonderful thing! For both slow, precise control off road and for seat of your pants launches at the drag strip.

Yes they are. If you go to those places. Since US Route 15 is the closest thing I have to either of those anywhere near me, (I am very much a country boy stuck in the stupid city) and low range second gear gives me just as much control as a light foot on a TC, I see no need to convert my torque.

Torque converters are also pretty nice for starting off a huge heavy load. That's why I would want one in a diesel truck.

Do you also hate punctuation? :icon_rofl:

Seriously, The rebuild on the 2nd trans was probably not that good, if it only lasted 40k miles. 33's with the right gearing shouldnt have put that much more stress on the trans. It should have lasted longer then that. What gears were you running?

Tire shouldn't matter IF YOU GEAR PROPERLY!!

bump...

any more input?
i have my 33's on my a4ld now w/ 3.73 gears... it aint hurt it yet! AND GET THIS.... I DROVE MORE THAN 10 MILES! lol.... was even out playin on some trails last night. my trans still does just fine and it was like Feburary when I started this thread.
