I got this truck from my brother, you can put the truck in drive and it will just rev, So I drained the fluid and it came out grey and had a smell to it, I put a new filter and new transmission fluid in and started it up and it drove for about 500-1000 and then the fluid was grey again:annoyed: and would not move in drive. What could this be?:icon_confused:

Is the vehicle getting low on engine coolant?

Maybe the trans cooler is getting filled with coolant from a pinhole in the radiator?

I'd say the trans is toast.

I would say T0 is right.

Grey fluid mean tiny metal shavings in it. The fact that they aren't being grabbed by the pan magnet either means it's got too much on it already, or they are aluminum (more likely). The only aluminum part in that trans is the case. Once the case is as damaged as I'm sure that one is, you need to just look for a new trans.

the tranny has major issues,, like the other guy said there is metal in the oil which is very bad the only way to fix it is to pull it apart and rebuild it,,,thats only if it hasnt torn the cassing up to bad

Could it be part of the friction pads inside the tranny that are shaven off in hte fluid? Instead of metal?

If he'd gone 15,000 to 20,000 miles and the fluid was brown or black, I could see that. Not turning gray in 500 to 1000 miles. Gray means metal.

I was thinkin if something was causing the friction parts to actually shave and shatter but yeah I see what your saying.

Sounds like what my daughters Mazda did... it is toast!
