"free" internet phone service?

Does anyone use the “free” internet phone services such as skype, etc? My parents are going through some rough financial times and one of the many bills they need to eliminate is their phones. I do not know yet if they are keeping their internet, but if they are, I was goin to see if I can find a free or cheaper service so they can still make/receive calls. From what lil I have seen so far, it looks to be that most of these phone services are free, IF you are calling other members.

If they're keeping their internet (high speed I hope), look into MagicJack. I haven't used it personally, but I have heard good things. Plus for $20 a year... can't hurt to try.

My GF grandparents use magic jack and only problem they have is that after about 20 minutes of straight talking it will disconnect. They just call the person back and keep talking though

My G/Fs daughter is foreign exchange and lives in Belgium.Talk all the time on Skype.Works pretty good and they can see her new clothes what she got for xmas whatever.If she wants to talk to them she rings the phone and hangs up so I don't know if it would take the place of a phone.
