how to get exhaust to be louder

hey guys i have a 91 ranger 4.0 5spd i took muffler off and its still so quiet. what should i do i want it to be loud any suggestions?

Well, right where it comes together at the Y, cut that off behind the Y, and then run two turn downs welded together, and that should make it loud.

Of course this is NOT really recommended, but you want loud, there you go.

you could also get a set of Headers, and just run them open

i think im goin to cut it where it bolts cats to y pipe then before next inspection ill take care of it this truck is so quiet my 2.9 was so much louder with no muffler

mine is pretty dang loud with no muffler.. do you have a cat still?
my 2.9 was louder with a flowmaster than the 4.0 straight.. i know. i did the swap and realized that..

I ran my 4.0 with just a Y-pipe when I first got it installed to test drive it and it was retarded loud, ear splitting loud.


OP, do not confuse LOUD with sounding GOOD.

cheap and loud... cut it at the y-pipe.. and weld on a turn down. but you have to remember-- like with my b2 with a 4.0 for example. i have nothing but pipe, no cat- no muffler. its not that loud inside, but behind it... its loud!
i think the 4.0 sounds awesome with nothing but pipe, but i would NOT want all that sound coming from the underneath of my truck.. oh and bigger slash tips help to.

Hook up a p.a. system with the speaker in your ear and the mike at the exhaust.

if u have a sliding rear window, cut off all ur pipes before the car at the y, run straight pipe up and through the bed to just behind the slider window on either side...drive with windows open, will be PLENTY loud enough for u
