Lets see your bumpers

my new rear bumper

ive got about $500 invested in materials for the back bumper and a little more than $1,000 in labor at the rate of $30 per hour. its not about money though, its about the function of the part and whether it helps or hinders your daily use of it.

are you saying 1500 for just the rear bumper?

in a previous post a guy was asking what we had in our bumpers....those that had done it ourselves....

so he was just breaking it down....

but then, i never really consider my labor or keep track of the time involved when doin stuff for myself and/or for friends.....

plus, only the "Big Corporation" i work for is willing to pay me what i am worth....:thefinger::thefinger:

front is a stock chopped one, with a procomp light bar.... going to build one as soon as i get some free time!

the rear me and a friend made... more of a roll pan looks wise, but its 1/8th thick with two tow points.

I like your rear bumper. I want to do something similar, but cut the sheet metal and extend the bumper to wrap around all the way to the fender...so it acts like a rock slider as well. Have any more pics of how you mounted it etc?

No pictures... but those two tow points go straight onto the framerail where they are bolted onto the frame... pretty simple. then just measured and cut the piece going across and boxed it and welded it to the brackets.

pictures of my bumper that me and my dad made. i built this when i was 17 and took a weekend the house garage no fancy tools used :icon_thumby::icon_thumby: sorry i got like 5 pictures i was excited about it.

i dont usually figure my labor into my projects either, but for the sake of all the people asking about what building bumpers cost, ya gotta keep labor costs in mind if you cant build it yourself. 6+ years ago (thats about the length of time its been since i worked for a steel supplier) steel was fairly inexpensive and i would throw out scraps from my jobs all the time, but now that the price had climbed ive found myslef collecting milk crates full of little scraps of angle iron, square tube, pipe, and flat stock. so i guess what im getting at is that for someone who didnt already have "left overs" to build gussets or make latch components or whatever, they would have to spend more money to buy a full length of steel (3',4', etc) just so they could use 2 or 3 inches of it. if i had to come up with the money to pay myself to build up my truck it would have never happened in the first place.:thefinger:
