I still need to get the A/C stuff out so I can put it in the Ranger, I also have a ton more wiring harness to remove in the back, I also have to pull the Steering so I can use the Auto shifter and stuff.

The Explorer HAD a good factory radio, I thought I had it unlocked to pull, and when I pulled, the face plate came off:annoyed: Now I have to find another 92 Explorer Radio.:annoyed:

I still have to pull the dash and stuff from the Ranger, I'm hoping to have all that done this weekend, then I'll pull the engine from the Explorer, and start cleaning and gasket kitting it, any one know if someone makes alum valve cover for the 4.0 ???

I also have to get to my father-in-laws and get his pressure washer and take it to the Ranger, the cross member where the back of the engine was, is covered in about 2 inches of dirt and oil, that should be fun.

If any one want the Explorer body when I'm done, make me a offer, or I might just take a hacksaw to the roof for the heck of it to see what it would look like as a convertible:icon_confused:.

I some more done today before it started to rain:annoyed:, but God did let me wake up this morning, so I better not complain, any how here is more pictures.

Looks like I got a lot of rust to cut out and fix.

I'm going to cut the floor pan out of the Explorer and use it to fix the rust in the floor.

Wow you got a lot done buddy! Sucks the cold weather is moving in.. It's what slowed me down last year.

I'm taking a brake from the Mustang, I found out what kind of paint they want me to spray on it, and I'm not happy about it, but it could have been worst, they could have bought house paint.

I got the Power Washer to day from Father-in-Laws, I sprayed purple power all over the engine bay of the ranger and took off half of the factory red paint :) I'm going to let it soak awhile, it's starting to rain so that stop today's work on it, tomorrow if it's half way clear out, I'm going to drop the Tranny and pull the Engine out of the Explorer and then start cleaning the engine and saving for parts for the engine, mainly gaskets, I'm going to have to wait on the high volume oil pump, they are quite expensive even on e-bay.

I was trying to take the seat belts out of the Ranger, and twisted my star tool off, I'll have to get me some more of them.

Robert

What do you all think about using a solid axle from a old Ford or some thing and leaf springs on the front of the truck ?????

I'm trying to scout me out one, if it's too wide I might be able to have the Tech School cut it down and re-weld it back for me, I'll also see if they can get it to where it will ride lower then stock.

also does any one know my chances that the front 4x4 in the 92 Explorer is a d35 ???? and the chances that the rear is a good 8.8 ??

I bought my pump from hd_mad_dog on ebay.. I think it was around 140.. Much cheaper than autozone.. but it is expensive none the less!

I'm not sure Rob but I don't think you could could get any different axle combination when the Explorer was a TTB truck.

OK, I didn't know when Ford went from a d28 to d35, and I wasn't sure what Explorers had in them, if the Explorer has a d35, then that is great, If I can't sell the front end, I guess I will keep it and later install it into my 89 B2 and later I will pick up another 8.8 rear end.

can any one give me some thoughts on using a solid axle with leaf springs on my little Ranger ????

You are talking like the solid axle on the 2WD Jeep Cherokee?? Or are you building a 4x??? I never seen any ford with a SA 2WD...

back before Ford came out with the twin I beam, some thing like they used on the Gasser drag racers.

I might have a good lead on one with disk brakes, I might have to get it cut, I think it may be too wide right now... I'm just trying to think of something to make my little Ranger different from other Rangers, I might not do it, just wondering what others think about it.

Robert

You been busy! Stay after it,it'll come along nicely!! Good progress!
I wanna see that stang when it's done! Got 3-4 to restore myself!

Oh yeah the Super Duty had the type axle you are talking about back in the day... IMO I would leave it with the I beams.. Just upgrade them to 89 up and use the spindle that has dual piston calipers.... I have a set of I beams I'd give you if you weren't so far away... Got a good floor pan you could have too... would there be a benifit to changing it to solid? If I was set on doing that I would use one from a 2WD jeep. I think it would be easier to cut down to fit if needed...

No real benefit to using it, just an idea I had, just something that people could look at and think "cool" or think "WTF" or something like that, as I type, I might not even do it, it's just an idea, and the axle I seen I might not even be able to buy it.

I wish I was closer to you, would save me a ton of work cutting the floor pan out of the Explorer.

I'm only doing the body work and the paint, the people who own it are cheap ba****ds, they brought the paint over the other day and I'm really NOT too happy with it:annoyed:, they bought the paint from Tractor Supply, I asked them about it and said " It's only 32 dollars a gallon, and the hardener is only 12 dollars a can":dunno: and on top of that they bought 2 gallons of beige paint, AND 2 gallons of clear AND they want me to spray ALL of the 4 gallons on this small car:shok:, I told them that was way too much paint, and the man said "The more paint on it the less chance that it can rust":dunno:, guess I should be happy that they didn't buy House paint and a roller :annoyed:

Hopefully to day the rain will pass by and I can get the engine pulled from the Explorer, and start cleaning it up.
