ive been searching but havent really found much on the 5.0 swap on carb'd b2's and rangers. i have a 2.8 durasparked right now. ive been doing some searching online and ive seem to have some good lines on a couple of motors. i had access to a 347, but its not going to be the best setup for a dd.
first off my a4ld is crap, and im going to be getting a c5 soon, and putting it in with my 2.8 so i can get around(i doubt my a4ld will hold up much longer). im going to be collecting parts for the swap, and will prolly do a complete rebuild on the c5 when its swap time.
i can get the small bellhousing from summit or jegs. so thats not a problem.
when rebuilding the c5 can i use a c4 master kit? how about servo's? PATC has some good looking rebuild kits for the c4. also what stall speed converter do i need to get for a dd? i was thinking the patc 1800 stall(although i believe hays has some mileage miser one with 1200-1600 stall. i hate the high stall speed of my a4ld.
the motor im looking at is from an early 90's 5.0, and im not sure if its h.o or not. also i found a couple of mustang 5.0's that arent h.o. they all seem to go for around 500 bucks for a complete motor with a 30 day-3month warranty. depending on the j/w i go to.
heres what i want:
im looking for about 170-235hp. i dont need anything crazy built as i drive this thing everyday, i also want it to be decently reliable.
on to the questions:
ok, so if i use a crown vic or other efi motor, what do i need to do to convert it over to carb'd? is there a decent factory i/m i can use? prolly going to be using a 500cfm 2bbl carb i have in the back of my rig. i know i can get a 2bbl to 4bbl mani adapter, so how would an edelbrock or summit brand im be on a dd? do i need to buy one for a 302 or 5.0?
so what about the accessories? could i use the stock c/v or mustang accessories? im not going to be retaining a/c, so im not worried about that ill get an a/c delete. will the serpentine system be ok? also im going to use my 4.0 explorer 2 core radiator with the swap, as im not going to be making gobs of power. is there anything wrong with that?
now to the ignition part.
could i use the stock efi disty even tough i have converted my rig to duraspark? or do i need to buy a vac advance disty?
what about the fuel pump? econoline mech, or a cheap electrical? what will i have to do as far as fuel lines if i go with electrical?
will i run into any problems using a smog efi motor, and getting rid of all the smog stuff? anything to block off, or will the carb'd i/m take care of that?
sorry this is kinda long, i noticed today i have blowby in my 2.8, and im not the kinda guy that likes to be stranded on the side of the road, so i figured i might as well swap in a 5.0 versus rebuilding what i got
thanks guys
