how not to launch a boat

Well, I had a friend who's truck went submerged in the boat basin at Pendleton. He spent the night with it flushing fresh water through the engine, tranny, axle and flooding it everywhere with a hose--after the fire department first blasted the shit out of it with a fire hose. It survived okay, but we had to rewire a large portion of the truck because the salt water ate the wiring.

That was a 1959 F100. A new truck probably has much better sealed wiring, but it also has more secret places that would be difficult to flush out. That truck needs to be dropped into a swimming pool, seriously.

So I guess the parking brake snapped and it just dragged the truck in even though it was in park?

.

I wonder if she is flooded? XD

you drove your truck till it was completely submerged in 6 feet of salt water and drove it away? that's almost believable.

it was submerged in water up to the radio over night, and in the morning we popped the hood, spun the intake hose upright like a snorkle, and drove it out.

Well that's hardly comparable to being completely submerged in saltwater.

People crack me up.

I use to have a Yamaha Waverunner that I launched in Lake Erie. I always stuck the truck in 4WD when I would back in to the ramp to keep a bite with the front tires. I pulled up to launch one day and this guy backed his full size van in to pull a jetski out of the back doors. When he got out of the van, away it went. As it submerged in to the lake the side windows popped out.

That was my next thought. He must have left it in drive or neutral, with just the e-brake on.

Who said it was an automatic? It's more likely he has a manual transmission and left it in neutral with the e-brake on. Probably still had the engine running. If the engine was still running when it sank, it undoubtedly hydrolocked and is toast.

Not necessarily hydrolocked. the motor would not have been under any load. it more thanlikely just pulled water in and stopped the motor. There wouldnt have been enough rotational force to snap or bend rods.pull the plugs and spin the motor over a few times to get most of the water out, let it air dry for a while and i would bet that it woud run fine after thorough flushing.

My thoughts on the situation, the underwater submersible modification failed.

of course it is, the only thing sticking out of the water was the windows and roof, all the important shit was under water.

Saltwater. And you said it was worse, which was a lie.

The first thing my dad said when he saw that was that it mustve been a 5 speed and they put it in neutral. What i dont get is, if she had time to get her purse out of the truck why couldnt she hit the brakes or if it was running put it in gear?
