When my daughter got her truck on Christmas morning, we were out there that afternoon to help me work on it. So far, she has changed the oil and the shocks. She will be doing the plugs soon.

So, I take my youngest cat out in the garage and try to get him to help me do anything? Ha!!!! All he wants to do is play, play, play and then eat and sleep. Darn!!! This just proves that kids are useless....lol

My dad showed me how to do so much!!! I miss him. My dad was an Air Force pilot for 33 1/2 years. So we lived all over the world. He was my first best friend. When we lived in Africa back in 66-69 he bought me my first motorcycle. It was a Moto Guzzi 125 Cafe Racer. He striped it down and made me put it back together again just so I would understand the mechanics of it all. Then he let me ride it. I learned so much for this few hours of brain racking!!! But...it made a motor head out of me.

I am thankful my dad taught me how to do many things on that list.

Many a Saturday was spent wrenching on the family rides. I remember my first oil change on our '87 Blazer. It held six quarts of oil. Two on the ground, three on me, and I managed to get the last one into the drain pan.

The fun of looking at how a CV joint goes together. The time we cut apart an oil filter to see what exactly it catches. The fun of looking at semmingly simple parts and admiring their form.

I love and thank my dad for those special moments we have shared AND continue to share.

I don't want to bad mouth dad cause that is one man I will love but he only taught me how to change a tire. I learned everything else by myself by trial and error. And for bein 20 I think i picked up pretty well, but to be fair he taught other valuable things to me.....

I taught myself how to do that ^^^^^^^ in a 02 focus hahaha my sis is still driving that car to this day after 3 teens learned stick and beat the piss outta it and has original clutch holdin strong on 140,000 miles.......hard hard miles way to be ford makin things that stand up to teens haha

I'm not sure where I learned most of the stuff I have done with cars and trucks besides trial and error and reading tech articles on forums like this. I think it really helped to have an ATV that I did all of the work on myself and ended up racing also. A lot of routine maintenance is common sense, but even the simplest job can turn into a nightmare sometimes. Such as about a month ago when I replaced my serpentine belt. I didn't look at how it was routed very well before I took it off. I fought trying to put it on the wrong way for over an hour, I knew I would feel like a dumb ass when I figured it out and by the time I got it on, I did feel like a dumb ass. Weird thinking I can change a clutch with a reverse throw out bearing, but a belt got the best of me.
