who is stealing my water...uhh really I can't figure out why I have to add water to my radiator, once a week or so, a couple of quarts? I don't see any visible leaks, but when I crank her up, I can hear water gurgling somewhere under the dash around the heater core. My carpets aren't wet, so I don't think it's leaking there, it's got me scratchin my head....oh, BTW she's an '89 Ranger, 2.9/w AC Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help...I'm not much of a mechanic...and all my tools end up in the woods behind my house...lmao Thanks Dave...

When is the last time you changed rad hoses?

really old rad hoses can evaporate fluid right through the hose without any signs of leakage.

A head gasket leak wil allow water to burn off in the cylinder without trace. And if you are keeping your fluids up youll never know.

Look for a really clean spot on the engine sometimes the leak will be a fine mist of steam and keep the area around it real clean get it hot after you top it off and take your hand around and feel for damp spots get under it and check the feeze plugs it will eventually show its face do you get snot on the dip stick look for water-coolant marks on the radiator you can normally smell it if it is a heater core but you can take the two hoses to the heater and do a bypass with a nipple to take it out of the loop and see if it stops. Keep looking and put a motion sensor under it at night with a loud alarm, that will normally scare the gremlins away

I have the same problem in my '96 after recently replacing ALL of the hoses and water pipes. When I was changing the oil, I saw barely a drop of antifreeze on the head of a bolt, but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. other than that small sighting, there is no spots at all where I park.

If your oil is good, go hit up the local Chevy dealer and get some GM StopLeak tabs.

I know, I know, plugging GM parts of a Ford site, but they are the best out there, and they are cheap.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. They were very helpful. My oil is fine, no snot, it is always clean,thank God! I am going to change my hoses cause I think it's been 3 or 4 yrs ago that i put in a new rad & hoses. I'm gonna try the GM stop-leak tabs if that doesn't do it. I don't see anything out of the tailpipe either, which is a good sign too. Much thanks to all of you! I love this site!!!
