new tent!

What happend to just sleeping on the ground? Or getting two sticks and proping a tarp over them? Isn't camping suppose to be back to basics.

That is awesome! I have always wanted one of those.

The only thing I wouldn't like is having to remove my tool box for it.

Cap camping I have done and my inside of the cap would always be dripping wet when I would wake up in the mornings, didn't matter if windows were open or not.

I wondered if that would happen....the hard top in my jeep would do that in the right conditions....Jeep Dew.

I haven't had it happen in the cap yet, but the weather might have been on my side. Either that or not enough heavy breathing.....

I'll have to see if it starts happening as the weather gets warmer...this is my first year with the Ranger.

damn, i'm gonna buy a truck just so i can get one of those.

so what happens to the spare tire and hi-lift while the tent's in the bed? what happens if you wanna go drive through a creek or something while you're camping?

It cost me 110$ or so if i remember right, it was a demo, so i got it for half off or there abouts.

I'm with gcfishguy on this one though... not tent-hatin' but I think canopy is the way to go. But whatever floats your goat!

Ive been considering a tent, but I gotta agree with you. Ive always just taken my 3 piece sleeping bag and found a soft spot in the dirt. With the gortex water proof cover there was no problems. Everynow and then we would use our aiming poles for the mortars and a camo tarp and set it up knee high. That way we could close in one side with our rucks for really inclement weather, but most times it was jsut on the ground or in a .50 pit.

I needed a tent anyway, and this was bigger than a lot of other tents i was looking at for the price, its nice because it runs the length of the bed, and actually fits my 6'2" frame. Plus I really like the fact that its up off the ground, I hate waking up to all the moisture when tenting on the ground. I know what some of you guys are saying about a truck cap, but I HATE truck caps, and I use the bed of my truck to much to even think of having one for camping, so a tent that I can setup or tear down is perfect for me. Hence why I bought it.

I looked into one of those just for fun. After thinking it over I still prefer the ground tent.

Mainly because I can leave it setup with all of my crap in it so I don't have to essentially break camp every time I want to drive somewhere.

If you pick a good spot, rain isn't an issue. Dew always will be an issue with a tent, I had it on my windshield and both side windows this morning.

Went out with my brother and two cousins a couple years ago at Lake Rathbun, had the back of my truck full of gear on the way out and back, thru all of the non-fishing crap in the tent (sleeping bags, air matresses, food coolers...) and we were ready to go fishing on a whim.
