PlumCrazy's Build

I would take that offer......get it.

I would take that offer......get it.

I am pretty sure I can find set here at one of the 5 local JY's. They are all full of Exploders from the cash 4 clunkers program. I actually could have bought a D35 with 4.10's in if for like 50 bucks last year, but I didnt have my 4x4 yet. I agree with you on the finding the whole D35 with gears already in it, thats how I did my 3.73s up front when geared down the first time (had trouble finding D35 w/ 4.10's then too). A friend of mine that has done a zillion Ford rear ends is going to help me setup the gears (for a 12 pack) all I have to get is a some shims.

When I get the 4.10's in I will have an awesome final crawl ration with my hybrid trans. I will basically have the ratio as the original 4.0 M50D and 4.56's in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

I did the math for a few different gear combinations. It looks like I will actually have a lower 3rd gear with my hybrid and 4.10's than the stock 4.0 M50D and 4.56's.(same way it was with hybrid/3.73 vs. stock/4.10)

(First/Second/Third all in low range)
34.41/20.35/13.88 (Hybrid M50D w/ 3.73 R&P) - This is the combo I have now
34.57/20.84/13.32 (Stock 4.0 M50D w/ 4.10 R&P)
37.82/22.37/15.25 (Hybrid M50D w/ 4.10 R&P) - This is where I will be soon
38.44/23.18/14.81 (Stock 4.0 M50D w/ 4.56 R&P)

Our junkyards may differ.

4cyl 4x4 between 90' and 92' seem to be the only bet for a factory 4.10 diff. That's why they are a pain to find. Talk about a needle in a stack of needles.

I have seen at least two TTB Exploders with 4.10's in my JY adventures(twice some times three times a week during the summer). I have seen quite a few 95+ Exploders with 4.10's, but only the back axle has any value to me. I didnt used to pay attention to what gears they had because I was always after intereior or body parts. I crawl under about every TTB RBV I see now.:icon_twisted: I know of a few JY's that are out in the sticks and dont see to much traffic (or new vehicles) Im sure there are a quite a few Rangers and Exploders ripe for the picking. I know quite a few 3rd gen 4x4 4 bangers came with 4.10's, but they are hybrids.

TTB explorers with 4.10's?

I heard this "myth" but heard it was false......from AllanD.

I KNOW for sure 95' and up Explorers, and 98' and up Rangers have 4.10's stock.

Pictures.....or it never happened....lol :icon_confused:

I know for sure the rear end said 4.10, but for all I know somebody could have swapped rear axles and took the front drive shaft off to get by.lol (I have seen it before). the junkyards around me are supplied by and frequented by some thrifty(broke) people.

Standard cut D35 gears from a 95+ Exploder wont work in a TTB D35 housing with are reverse cut. Now the rear end (8.8) will, but they arent hard to find really they were not too rare in the 95+ Exploders.

It will soon be protecting some 4.10's (I plan to keep my L/S carrier). I already picked up all my new bearings, seals, and shims.

And look what I found at the local JY..... I found some D35 4.10's under the last Ranger in the last row of the the 5th JY I went to.:yahoo: Ended up paying less than than 50 bucks for it, and it came with the pass side shaft so I will have a few spares now. I cleaned it up a little since was sitting under one of the dirtiest 2.9's I have ever seen.lol I put all new seals in it and I am going to check and make sure the tooth contact is still in spec before I throw it under my truck.

I also snapped a few poser picks with the 35's. I drove around a little bit on them, but it looks like I will definitely need some taller coils and/or a little fender trimming. I am thinking of trimming about a 2" all the way around and little more on the lower corners then using the existing holes to mount some Pacer flexy flares I am going to keep the stock rear flares, but I am going to paint them black along with the racker panels with some Duplicolor Bed Armor.

Finally investigated why my heat and AC isnt working quite right. It seemed like I could only get blazing heat or Max AC. It turned out to be the notorius split blend door shaft. I picked up a new one for 10 bucks, so I am looking forward to pulling the dash and to install it.:annoyed:

Those 35's look good on there. :icon_thumby: Makes me want to jump from 31's to 33's......:D

Damn, I'm surprised, but not, that you found a 4.10 chunk so easy and inexpensive. I forgot some of the early 90's 2.9 auto 4x4's got a few of the 4.10 chunks, Good find! When mine came in from AllanD it was caked in grease and oily/dirt mess. I've found that the fast orange, some latex gloves and a few picks will clean the aluminum effectively. I've used a power washer, degreaser, dawn dishsoap...etc...etc. The fast orange hands down works the best. Just rub it down and rinse....

This inspires me.......I need to make a cover for my 7.5, I've got 1/4" plate that isn't doing anything right now.......:icon_idea:
